Testing.. testing.. ah-ah. I said I would at least create the site by the end of winter break and I barely made it in time. After lurking on neocities for an embarrassingly long amount of time, I've finally mustered enough will power to write a couple lines of markdown and decorators. Thankfully, I've managed to finish the scaffolding cause God knows that once the semester starts kicking, all the motivation to build anything will be snuffed out by the endless chalkboard scraping and keyboard tapping.

I don't really enjoy web design but I thought it would be nice to have a place to journal about school related work and academic research, though I don't know how consistent I'll be with it. I also hope to connect with other individuals/communities with similar interests or hobbies as many on this site have already done.

So in spirit of that, I thought I'd jot down a couple looming thoughts about my classes for the semester. This semester will most likely be the most brutal semester of my academic career (something I say every semester). Previous semesters have always been riddled with one or two challenging classes I greedily take for my own satisfaction but this semester, I've really just decided to embrace my death. Taking a class on computer systems was my biggest mistake since now my curiosity has fully piqued and I've decided to take two more classes tangentially related to that: OS and Parallel Computing on GPUs. I'm also enrolled in a mandatory advanced algorithms class that is known to tear the spines out of the hunchbacks of unsuspecting students. The cope I keep drumming in my head is that GPUs will be useful for my research and the algorthims class this semester is being offered by a competent professor but... who even knows. However the class I'm most excited for is a non-STEM class on Italian party culture. The course description says we'll be looking at shiny doodads and pretty gadgets so I'm very excited.

Hopefully I'll manage to keep updating and dumping over all the noise but this should be plenty for my first entry. Happy New Years.
